MoLock

Select it. Read it in your language.

Some text can't be copied — a word inside a picture, a paused video, a dialog that won't let you select anything. Select that part of the screen, and MoLock reads the text and shows the translation right away, between Arabic and English. It is free, new in MoLock 3.1, and still being polished.

01 / 08How it works

Select. Read. Understand.

Screen translate reads the picture, not the app — so it works on whatever is on your screen.

  1. 01Step 1/3

    Select part of the screen

Mark the area with the text you want — a paragraph, a button, a caption.

  2. 02Step 2/3

    MoLock reads the text

The same reader as “Copy text” in the screenshot tool turns the picture into words, in Arabic or English.

  3. 03Step 3/3

    The translation appears

Arabic to English or English to Arabic, right away, next to the original — with Copy when you need it.

02 / 08What it does

Text you can't copy. Words you can read.

A quick way to understand what's in front of you, without retyping a word into another app.

  • Text inside pictures

Screenshots, photos of documents, banners and slides.

  • Any app, any window

Menus, dialogs and messages in programs that don't let you select text.

  • Both directions

Arabic to English and English to Arabic.

  • A reader you know

The same text reader as “Copy text” in MoLock's screenshot tool.

  • See both

The original and the translation side by side, so you can check one against the other.

  • Copy in one click

Take the translation into any app you are writing in.

  • Free

Part of MoLock's free tools — no plan needed.

03 / 08Getting a good reading

Clear text in. Clear translation out.

The translation is only as good as what the reader can see. Three habits help.

  • Make it big enoughSmall or blurry text reads poorly. Zoom in on the page or document first, then select.
  • Select only what you needA tight selection around one block of text gives a cleaner reading than half a screen.
  • Check what mattersMachine translation is quick, not perfect. For contracts, medical or official text, ask a person.

04 / 08Privacy

The picture stays. Only the words are used.

Screen translate is built to need as little as possible: the area you select is read on your PC and never uploaded. Only the recognised words are sent — over an encrypted connection — to a free online translation service (MyMemory by Translated), after you allow it once. MoLock keeps nothing.

  • The picture stays on your PC

The area you select is read on your PC and never uploaded.

  • Only the words go online

Just the recognised text of your selection is sent to the free translation service — never the picture, and nothing else from your screen. Don't translate passwords or secrets.

  • Nothing kept

MoLock keeps no history of what you selected or translated.

05 / 08Dashboard & bot

Nothing to manage. It lives on your PC.

Screen translate is a tool on the PC. There is no dashboard page or bot command for it, and nothing about your translations is sent to your account.

  • Part of MoLock's tools on the PC, next to screenshots and Copy text — free on every plan.
  • Your selections and translations are never saved to your dashboard or your history.
  • Want another language? Suggest it on the public roadmap — from the app, the dashboard or the site.

Dashboard first: how it all fits together

06 / 08Limits

Exactly what it does. And what it doesn't.

  • The text must be readable

Clear fonts at a comfortable size work best; tiny, blurry or heavily decorated text may be misread.

  • No handwriting

Screen translate reads typed text on the screen, not handwriting.

  • Arabic ⇄ English for now

Those are the two languages today. Need another? Suggest it on the roadmap.

  • Still being finished

Screen translate is new in 3.1 and still being polished, so expect it to improve. For anything important, have a person check the translation.

08 / 08Questions

Screen translate

All questions

What is screen translate, and is it free?

You select part of your screen, and MoLock reads the text in it and shows the translation right away next to the original, with a Copy button. It is free on every plan, new in 3.1 and still being polished. The details are on the screen translate page.

Which languages does it support?

Arabic and English for now, in both directions. If you need another language, suggest it on the public roadmap — every suggestion gets a reply.

Does the picture of my screen leave my PC?

No. The picture you select is read on your PC and never uploaded. Only the recognised words are sent, over an encrypted connection, to a free online translation service (MyMemory) after you allow it the first time. MoLock keeps no record of what you selected or translated.

Why is some text misread?

The reader needs clear text: readable fonts at a comfortable size. Tiny, blurry or heavily decorated text may be misread, and handwriting isn't supported. Zoom in before you select, and select only the block of text you need.
