Convert any file fast on Windows, right on your PC
Converting a file should take a right-click, not an upload to a stranger's website. MoLock 3.0 brings a full converter to your PC, and it is built above all to be fast.

Why converting a file is still a chore
Every week brings a small conversion job: phone photos the office PC will not open, a form that wants a PDF when you have a Word file, a video too large to share, a folder of scans that should be one document.
The usual answers are all a little bit wrong:
- Online converter sites want the file uploaded first: waiting, size caps, adverts and, worst of all, a private document or family video handed to a service you know nothing about.
- A different program for each job works, but leaves you juggling four tools with four sets of menus.
- "Save as" in the original app is fine for one file. It is no help for three hundred.
MoLock 3.0 adds one converter that covers these everyday jobs, sits where you already are (the right-click menu), and does the work on your own PC. You can read the full list of what it handles on the converter page.
Two ways in: right-click or the converter window
The quickest way is the one you already know. Select one file, or a whole group of them, in File Explorer and right-click. The MoLock menu is specific to the type of file: right-click a HEIC photo and you are offered the conversions that make sense for a photo; right-click an MKV video and you see video and audio options; right-click a PDF and you can turn pages into images, split it or merge it with others. You do not scroll past a list of a hundred formats to find the two you need.
For bigger jobs, open the converter window. Drop in files or folders, mixed types included, and MoLock makes smart suggestions by extension: a sensible target for each kind of file, which you can accept or change. This is also where you set quality, choose what happens to metadata, pick a preset and watch the batch run.

Both routes use the same engines. Right-click is for "this file, now"; the window is for "this whole folder, exactly my way".
What it converts
Between them, MoLock's engines cover hundreds of format pairs. The table below shows the main families with a few familiar examples; it is not the complete list.
| Category | Examples | Typical jobs |
|---|---|---|
| Images | JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF | Phone photos to JPG, screenshots to PNG, web images to WebP or AVIF, resizing and quality |
| PDF to and from images | Turn pages into pictures, split a long file, merge several into one | |
| Video | MP4, MKV, MOV, WebM, AVI | Make a video play everywhere, shrink it for sharing, change the container |
| Audio | MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG | Extract the sound from a video, convert a recording to MP3 |
| Office documents | DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, ODT | Documents and slides to PDF for sending |
| Ebooks | EPUB | Ebooks to and from other reading formats |
| Archives | ZIP, 7Z, TAR | Pack a folder, unpack a download, switch archive type |
| Text | TXT, CSV, different character encodings | Fix garbled Arabic or accented text by converting the encoding |
Two families depend on what is already on your PC, and it is worth knowing why:
- HEIC, AVIF and WebP images are read through Windows' own image support. When the matching image extensions are installed on your system, which is common on up-to-date Windows, those formats simply work. If they are missing, MoLock tells you, rather than producing a broken file.
- Office documents are converted through Microsoft Office or LibreOffice when one of them is installed. Those programs understand their own files best, so the result looks the way the document looked when it was written.
Why it is fast
Speed is the headline of the 3.0 converter, and it does not come from one trick. It comes from avoiding work that does not need doing, and from using hardware your PC already has.
Re-packaging instead of re-encoding
A video file is a box (MP4, MKV, MOV) holding one or more streams: the picture, the sound, sometimes subtitles. Often the box is the only problem. Your television accepts MP4 but not MKV, even though the picture inside is in a format it plays perfectly well.
In that case MoLock does not decode and re-compress every frame. It lifts the existing streams out of the old box and places them in the new one. This is called a stream copy, and in plain words it means: the same video, in a new wrapper. It runs about as quickly as copying the file, and because nothing is re-compressed, nothing is lost. MoLock uses it automatically whenever the target format can carry the streams as they are. When it cannot, for example when the picture itself must change to fit a smaller size, MoLock re-encodes.
The fastest conversion is the one that does not re-encode anything at all.
Your graphics card's built-in encoder
When a video does need re-encoding, many modern PCs have a dedicated video encoder built into the graphics card or the processor's graphics. It exists precisely for this job and handles it far faster than the main processor alone. MoLock uses it when it is available, and quietly falls back to the processor when it is not.

Several files at once, sized to your PC
A batch is not processed one file after another. MoLock works on several files in parallel, and decides how many from your processor, so a powerful desktop gets through a folder quickly while a small laptop stays responsive enough to keep working.
No round trip to the internet
Everything happens on your PC, so there is no upload or download to wait for. For a large video, that alone is often the biggest saving.
Batches, presets and control
Converting one file is easy anywhere. Converting a whole folder well is where a proper tool earns its place. In the converter window you get:
- Progress you can read: each file's status and the overall batch.
- Cancel: stop a batch at any point if you picked the wrong setting.
- Before and after size: for every file, so you see straight away whether that "smaller" video really is smaller.
- Quality control: choose how much detail to keep. Lower quality means smaller files; higher quality means files closer to the original.
- Metadata, kept or stripped: photos and documents carry hidden details such as the camera, the date, the author or the place a picture was taken. Keep them for your own archive; strip them before you share files with the world.
- Presets: save a combination you use often, for example "photos for the family chat" or "videos for the TV", and apply it with one click next time.
Which format for what
The converter suggests sensible targets, but it helps to know the reasoning, so you can choose with confidence:
- Photos to share: JPG. Every device and every app opens it. HEIC and AVIF are smaller at the same quality, but not everyone can open them.
- Screenshots, diagrams and anything with text: PNG. It keeps sharp edges and lettering crisp, where JPG can blur them.
- Images for a website: WebP or AVIF. Both give smaller files for the same visible quality, which makes pages load faster.
- Video that must play everywhere: MP4. If your file is an MKV that will not play on a television, try converting it to MP4 first; it is often a stream copy, which means instant and lossless.
- Sound only: MP3 for the widest compatibility; FLAC when you want to keep the audio exactly, with no loss at all.
- Documents to send: PDF. It looks the same on every screen and cannot be accidentally edited by the person who receives it.
- Bundling files: ZIP when the other person might not have special software; 7Z when a smaller archive matters more than convenience.
And one rule that never changes: keep the original until you have checked the result. A conversion that throws away detail cannot put it back later.
Engines on demand, and what is free
A converter that handles video, office documents and ebooks needs large, specialised engines. Shipping all of them inside MoLock would make every download and every update heavy, even for people who only ever convert photos. So 3.0 does it differently.
The Basic converter is built in. Heavier engines arrive as packs, downloaded from 7ot.app only when you first need them. Each pack is checked before it is used: its expected size and digital fingerprint are published in MoLock's signed update information, and a pack that does not match exactly is rejected. A tampered or damaged download never gets to run on your PC.

Getting started
- Update to MoLock 3.0. Get it from the download page; the what's new list shows everything else in this release.
- Try a right-click. Pick a photo or a PDF in File Explorer, right-click, and open the MoLock menu to see the suggestions for that type.
- Open the converter window for a folder. Drop in a set of files, check the suggested targets, and set quality and metadata.
- Let packs download when asked. The first video, office or ebook conversion fetches the engine it needs, verified, once.
- Save a preset for the jobs you repeat. With Premium, one click repeats your favourite settings next time.
- Check, then tidy up. Compare the before and after sizes, open a couple of results, and only then delete the originals if you no longer need them.
The converter sits alongside MoLock's other everyday tools, from screenshots to recording; the tools page shows them all in one place.
